El verbo 'To be' es muy importante en el idioma inglés. Traduce "ser" y "estar" .
Example:
I am Jhon / Yo soy Jhon.
I am in Colombia / Estoy en Colombia.
She is my sister/ Ella es mi hermana.
You are a student/ Usted es un estudiante.
It is a dog/ Este es un perro.
They are my grandparents/ Ellos son mis abuelos.
Usos especiales.
- Sirve para expresar la edad, en cuyo
caso se traduce por 'tener':
Carolina is 9 years old / Carolina tiene 9 años
I am 15 / Yo tengo 15 años
How old are you? / ¿Cuántos años tienes?
- Para expresar las sensaciones también
se emplea el verbo 'to be' y equivale al 'tener' español.
Are you hungry? / ¿Tienes hambre?
He is thirsty / Tiene sed
- También para hablar sobre el tiempo
atmosférico. En este caso se traduce por 'hacer'
It's windy / Hace viento
